چکیده

In this paper, we discuss results and characteristics of the benchmark suites maintained by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation’s (SPEC) High-Performance Group (HPG). Currently, SPEC HPG has two lines of benchmark suites for measuring performance of large-scale systems: SPEC OMP and SPEC HPC2002. SPEC OMP uses the OpenMP API and includes benchmark suites intended for measuring performance of modern shared memory parallel systems. SPEC HPC2002 uses both OpenMP and MPI, and thus it is suitable for distributed memory systems, shared memory systems, and hybrid systems. SPEC HPC2002 contains benchmarks from three popular application areas, Chemistry, Seismic, and Weather Forecasting. Each of the three benchmarks in HPC2002 has a small and a medium data set, in order to satisfy the need for benchmarking a wide range of high-performance systems. We analyze published results of these benchmark suites regarding scalability. We also present current efforts of SPEC HPG to create new releases of the benchmark suites.

SPEC HPC 2002 : The Next High - Performance Computer Benchmark Extended

The High-Performance Group of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC/HPG) [1] is developing a next release of its high-performance computer benchmark suite. The current suite, SPEChpc96 [2] is expected to be replaced by the SPEC HPC2002 suite in the second quarter of the year 2002. HPC2002 represents a minor update to SPEC’s current high-performance computing benchmarks. In the l...

OpenMP benchmark using PARKBENCH

Real application codes in OpenMP obviously measure the performance of OpenMP programming on the real problems. Although this is ultimately what the end-user wants, the full real applications are often complex and large. In order to obtain a guide to the performance of OpenMP parallel programs in any given parallel systems, kernel and synthetic benchmarks are useful. PARKBENCH[4] is a set of ben...

An Architectural Assessment of SPEC CPU Benchmark Relevance

SPEC compute intensive benchmarks are often used to evaluate processors in high-performance systems. However, such evaluations are valid only if these benchmarks are representative of more comprehensive real workloads. I present a comparative architectural analysis of SPEC CPU benchmarks and the more realistic SPEC Java Server benchmark. This analysis indicates the integer subset of CPU benchma...

Performance Characteristics of OpenMP Constructs, and Applications Benchmarks on a Large Symmetric Multiprocessor

With the increasing popularity of small to large-scale symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) systems, there has been a dire need to have sophisticated, and flexible development and runtime environments for efficient and rapid development of parallel applications. To this end, OpenMP has emerged as the standard for parallel programming on shared-memory systems. It is very important to evaluate the perf...
